Microsoft's new operating system, Vista, is set to launch in January 2007. When it comes to imaging, the differences between Vista and Windows XP, although perhaps not immediately apparent, are dramatic. Over time, the capabilities provided to ISVs will enable significant new functionalities never before seen on consumer desktops. However, as is always the case with a Microsoft product, there is another side to this story. New technologies introduced by Microsoft tend to cause controversy, and the new imaging features in Vista will be no exception. From the new Windows Photo Gallery, to new file formats for still images and printed output, to automatic metadata management and integrated search, Microsoft is fielding capabilities that will take years to fully exploit and understand the impact of. Tom will review these and other new capabilities of Vista, and touch on some interesting questions, such as:
1. Will Vista kill PDF?
2. Will Vista kill JPG?
3. How will Vista affect companies like Corel, ArcSoft, Kodak, and other ISVs?
4. What is the "big event"? really?
Tom will demo Vista, showing many of these technologies in action. Hope to see you all there.
